Hello am going to decorate my bedroom and am thinking of a dark red or dark lilac -will it make the room seem smaller as the walls are dark? thanks

Probably, but I used to have my bedroom walls a lovely shade of rose...very restful for the eyes.
All it would have needed then was an oak 4 poster bed...shame but run out of money after buying the paint :rolleyes:0 -
We have a dark red bedroom, however all our furniture is white and the carpet light to balance it out. It doesn't really make the room look that much smaller, but that could be because it's a victorian house with high ceilings. I don't think I'd paint it this colour in a more modern house where the rooms are smaller and the ceilings lower, but I guess it depends on how much of the walls you'll actually see.Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0

I would go for a creamy colour on 3 walls and then the really deep colour you want on 1 wall..the one that he headboard goes against usually.. it will make much more impact and you wont feel as though the room is smaller... it looks stunning then if you just pick up that colour with cushions, bedding etc...
we have just had to repaint our house that is let out at the moment as the previous tennants painted it deep red..including the ceiling...and it was the living room..mt brother said it was like living inside a bruise (strange guy) and the dining room was day glo orange and yes the ceiling too... the whole thing apart from the bathroom is now cream and heck does it look bigger and cleaner..and the new tennants...can add what bits they like to make it more homely...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
We've just painted our bedroom a dark shade of brown (chocolate, really) on all four walls. Everyone screamed that it was a real no-no when they heard, but it looks really good. The curtains are cream, which obviously helps, and the bedspread is white, but it doesn't make the room look overly small. My personal opinion is that it doesn't matter too much in a bedroom. Dark walls with nice white skirting boards and door frames can look great if there's other light colours, e.g. cushions or bedspreads or curtains.0

My oh painted his bedroom a very dark red (blood red or something) ALL walls plus the ceiling AND woodwork. He thought it would be a nice surprise for me... He loved it, said it felt very comforting
It was a modern flat so the ceilings were not that high, always made me feel slightly claustraphobic (sp?) A friend has recently painted her bedroom an equally dark red, but with a high white ceiling & cornice it looks amazing.
Oddly enough I had a dark lilac bedroom at one time too, which I loved, similar size & height of ceiling but seemed much more spacious than the red one.0 -
Another poster on here frequently reminds me that lilac is bad for the bedroom department. If you get my drift
I'm not taking any chances!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
