Insurance for bloke doing work on my house?

My exterior walls need to be painted and gutters need to be cleaned and repaired.

I know someone who has been doing this kind of work for many years, and has offered to do the work a lot cheaper than if I was to go elsewhere.

He used to have public liability insurance but doesn't do so much work these days and is no longer covered. I'm not too worried about damage to my home, but I am worried about what would happen if he was to injure himself. Is that the kind of thing that public liability insurance covers? If so, can I get cover for him for a short period?

Thanks for any help.

public liability doesn't cover injuries to the workman, it covers injuries to the public (inc you)

Assuming there is no dangerous work (heat for removing old paint etc) I'd be inclined to just let him get on with it.

If he is going to be using a blow lamp then I'd not be letting him near my house unless he had insurance cover
