Putting antivirus on new computer ?

Our community music group has been loaned a computer for a year. We have been told to put AVG antivirus on it. What concerns me is the viruses etc. that could jump straight onto the computer as soon as we go online to put the AVG in place. Is there anyway to stop this or is that just the risk you have to take?

why not download the avg installer to your computer, save it to a cd then install it from there onto the new computer0

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, I'll try that!
(As long as I don't import all my computer problems to the new one!!)

I've just tried putting AVG onto CD and got registration no. ready to install it, but 2nd computer won't open the CD, just does its whizzing round noise and asks for a CD.
Could this be AVG stopping it being copied somehow? Or a CD problem? Or a problem that needs sorting on the 2nd computer?Torgwen.....................

I don't think it's avg stopping you copying the anti virus programme as I've copied it to a cd before now which loaded up ok.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Could it be that auto-run is not enabled on the computer. Try inserting the CD, right click, Start and go to Explore, find the CD driver and double-click on the AVG installer.
I've recently gone through this operation successfully on my new PC.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. I just put the CD in again and the contents of the CD drive came up immediately with the AVG on it (though I tried several times yesterday to find it). Maybe it needed rebooting in between or something (?). It has now installed with no problem.
For information for anyone else wanting to do this, I downloaded the AVG on computer 1 which has an internet connection as you have to receive an email with a registration number on it. I wrote down the number and copied the AVG (which was on the desktop) to CD. It wasn't recognized on computer 2, possibly need to reboot (?). When you find the AVG symbol, click open and a wizard does the rest!Torgwen.....................
