Am i Liable for Step Daughters Bill!

in Credit cards
Please can someone offer me some help.
My step daughter got a new car and i used my credit card to pay the deposit (which she paid me back in cash) and the monthly payments were then set up to come out of her bank account.
She then had a fault accident and un be-known to me decided shortly after to cancel the car insurance.
A couple of weeks later i went on to pay my Credit Card statement and was shocked to see such a large transaction on there.
Of course it turned out that because she cancelled the car insurance when a claim was pending the full premium was due and charged to my card.
I was not named on the policy at all.
My step daughter has no means to pay this full amount back to me either and i am now lumbered with this large payment on a card i am paying interest on.
Is there anything i can do I am at a loss and feel betrayed that i have been lumbard with someone else debt for doing a favour!
Thanks

Yes just put through a chargeback and when the form comes through state only accept partial not full payment.0

If the deposit was for the car, what does the insurance have to do with your card?!ellejohn1981 wrote: »My step daughter got a new car and i used my credit card to pay the deposit (which she paid me back in cash) and the monthly payments were then set up to come out of her bank account.

Like Grumbler.
Where does the ins policy come into this. If this was just the deposit on the car.
Or is the ins built into the car price.ellejohn1981 wrote: »My step daughter has no means to pay this full amount back to me either and i am now lumbered with this large payment on a card i am paying interest on.
Well a lot depends on how much you like your Step daughter. Or how much you want to screw up her ins history.
Any chargeback on this unrecognised transaction will see the ins co revoke the policy.
Which she will have to declare if she takes ANY ins policy out.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
You are not liable however you will have agreed (or your step daughter as your proxy) that the insurer retained the details on payment details on file to cover future charges if other methods fail.
Of cause you could attempt to recover it, your bank may or may not support you given the CPA was correctly set up and not cancelled prior to the charge. This of cause doesnt stop your step daughter owing the money and will potentially increase the amount owed (failed payment charges) and result in the insurance being void for non-payment thus meaning she will struggle to ever get reasonably priced insurance again in her life.
How are the relations with your daughter in law? How happy are you to teach her a lesson and cause her life long problems? (dont want to sound over melodramatic but ultimately the question is "ever")0 -
I sense it's the deposit for the car insurance; they normally take a percentage upfront when arranging it in instalments.
Or in many cases you take out a loan. To pay the full premium upfront.
But until the OP confirms that... It is nothing but as per my sig....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

Indeed, but I took this as a pretty strong hint:...the full premium was due and charged to my card43580 -
Probably the T&C says they have the right to take a lump sum of the card in these circumstances. Your step daughter agreed to them using your card in that way on your behalf. I think if you give someone permission to use your card, you're liable for whatever they use it for until you get it back.0

Yes sorry the deposit was for car insurance and I thought I would be liable. I am annoyed at myself for being so silly and seeing as my step daughter has made no effort to come up with a plan to pay me back I'm annoyed about that 2!
Thanks for all your comments. At present I have sent a dispute form to my bank and since sent the terms and conditions of the policy to them at there request. I guess I will just have to wait and see but I won't hold my breath!0 -

On what basis is it being disputed?
As unrecognised does not require any paperwork.
Looks like someone is going to have found out the hard way not to shaft family.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
