hello,
Do employers have to pay for eye check up's and/or glasses of you use the computer at work?
Does anyone know the law on this?
I use the computer most of the time at work 9-5 with the odd rest. but is there some sort of law that the employer has to pay for the eye check up and glasses?

You are entitled to ask your employer to provide an eye test if you are an employee who habitually uses DSE as a significant part of your normal day to day work. This is a full eye and eyesight test by an optometrist (or a doctor).
Many employers use the Eyecare Vouchers scheme for this.0 -

THANKS FOR THAT!!
am i right in thinking that as i only use the computer at work that the employer would only pay for glasses if i needed them for the computer and they would not pay for them if i needed them for long distance?Age: 24 / London/Ireland / Salary €49,000 / 1 London BTL (8% yield) / Total savings pot £12k+

My previous employer would pay for the eye test no problem but would only pay for spectacles/lenses if the optician stated that the deterioration in my eyesight was purely because of computer screen use. I have yet to find an optician who would do this in my area, despite looking for the last 20years :rotfl:0

You are right that glasses needed just for distance are not the responsibility of the employer. You would need such glasses for life in general, not just work.
In fact the employer does not have to pay for glasses if they are needed for reading. It would be assumed that you do read at times when you are not at work.
The requirement is that employers pay for glasses which are needed for VDU work specifically. The distance is different from reading.0 -

That is not what the law says. The law is about the need for the correction not how the need may have arisen.0 -
