Not Impressed

Direct Line - my husband phoned to cancel his car insurance policy yesterday as he has sold the car and bought a motorbike, they have charged him £20.00 admin fee for the privilege. I wouldn't mind if he had changed his car but having sold it and not replacing it, this is just a complete and utter rip off. Does anybody have a direct email address, as I refuse point blank to waste any more money on phoning this company.

You are asking them to cancel the policy mid term, and this involves work on their part. There is no 'rip off' in expecting you to pay for this work, especially when it is stated in the terms and conditions (it is).

You can write to them (addresses below) but it's worth bearing in mind that companies are entitled to charge an admin fee for mid-contract cancellation and £20 doesn't seem unreasonable.

You should be thankful it's only £20

Saying that, it wouldn't make a good thread would it, so I can see why you're so dramatic over £20

I am not impressed by your ignorance.

Insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company, everyone knows this is a yearly thing.

The insurance company do all the admin and documents for your year of insurance.

How could you not expect to not pay a small fee in order to cancel the policy.

I think you should delete the thread as you are only making yourself look silly.

You have worked for a bank for 20 years and you are complaining about unjustified admin fees.:T
