Looking for a new car, any suggestions?

Options
Our current car may be needing replaced, depending what the outcome is when it goes to the garage next week, so we're looking at options for a new car. Current car is a Honda CRV, last car was a Skoda Octavia estate - we need a big car as we have a black lab, go camping and we also have our first baby on the way. Any suggestions on what to go for next?

We don't particularly need a 4x4 any more, though I do like the height of it. We don't do an awful lot of miles (about 10k a year), and most of this is town driving, so a petrol may be better than a diesel (got rid of the skoda estate diesel for this reason). DH won't have a vauxhall, Peugeot or Citroen. I'd like something like a ford c-max, but are there any other options out there we may not have though of yet?

Budget is around £6-7k.

A vw touran petrol might be ideal for you

Mondeo = cheaper than a C-Max but running costs will be similar.

Another vote for a Mondeo , great car ( no I don't own one)
  • Thanks. I've had a mondo before, hatch rather than estate to be fair, but didn't think the boot was that big in it. Maybe the newer ones might be better. A VW touran would be ideal, but all the ones I've seen so far in our budget have been high miles for the age.

Estate boot is longer than the hatch. The boot height is not as large as the C-Max or probably the CRV, But the floorspace is greater.

The current Mondeo is being replaced by a newer model soon and their current models have had specs changed and prices lowered.

We are after one in the next 3 months and don't know whether to order now or take pot luck later in the year and get a real bargain ( as we did 3 years ago).

My mate (who's a huge Ford fan) recently had to trade up his 2nd car from a Fiesta to something bigger after having a baby. After much research he went for a used 1.6 petrol C Max as he needed the space for buggies and all associated gubbins but doesn't clock up huge miles. He loves it but fuel economy is in the low 30's due to the relatively small engine and the weight of it and the weight he carries round in it. All in though he's still happy with it and they can be had for a good price as most people foolishly only consider diseasels these days. I have to say its a pretty nice cabin and the novelty of the remote control bootlid hasn't worn off yet!
