Employers Liability Insurance

Hi

I've seen conflicting advice about whether or not this is required for a limited company whose only employees are my husband & myself. Can someone advise me? What happens if I don't have this insurance?

Many thanks

Not sure if this helps. But in my company there's only me and my accountants have advised me to get public liability insurance. The scenrio he gave me was if I leave my handbag out and someone trips over it they could sue me.

I've done some looking around and I can get it for £55

    Hi Jasmin

Thanks- I think this is different from Employers Liability though? Did you get told that you needed this at all?

Check on the Health & safety Executive website. There's a definition there - I think if you & OH are both directors then you won't need employer liability cover.

emv - it's a good question you have asked.

Employer's Liability is indeed different from Public Liability.

Do you have equal shares in the company or is there another shareholder?

If the only employees are each the owner of 50% of the issued share capital of the company, then I understand the company does not have to have employer's liability insurance.

If you don't have it it could leave you open for getting sued by one of the employees, but what are the chances of you OH doing that to yourself ??

If you start to employee other staff then I would recommend it, but for a single person Ltd company then you won't need it.

    Hope this helps.
