Big garden art/sculptures??

Hi we've recently moved house and have a big piece of land which included some woodland. I would like to add some unusual funky garden art/sculptures through out the woods and wondered if anyone had any advise in pointing me in the right direction as too were to go for this. Ive been looking on ebay and various googled sites but in general most pieces are quite expensive !
Criteria wise I would like them to be fair big 3ft plus. was wondering if anyone knew of any reclaimed old garden statues or just anywhere where I can get some cheaper work.
Live in thhe Lancashire area near ribble valley
Any help or advise would be appreciated
thanks
Paul

i saw a piece about this type of thing on the television recently...may even have been on somewhere like countryfile.
do you live near a wooded area or even an aboretum,or maybe a national trust property?

Several woodland areas now have links to wood art places from fine art to chainsaw sculpters...Westonbirt arboretum in the south west do something each year whereby you can see them created and then they are sold via auction...it may be that somewhere near you has similar...

Another place to try might be at an agriculture or farming show...

Also dependant on the type of thing you want have you thought about making giant windchimes that could hang from the trees...my son was at a primary school which had a wooded area and each class created either a windchime or a reclaimed bird which they hung from selected trees in the area...and actually although made from pieces of scrap, the kids did a really good job and they were very effective.

by the sheer nature that its probably a skill and probably quite large then I would expect a sculpture to be quite expensive, you dont mention your budget but I hope you find something to fill your space and that you can enjoy for many years to come

What about making your own. Have a look on pinterest. There are some really nice sculptures made out of old bikes, bike wheels, chicken wire, wine bottles etc.

I'm in the middle of making a garden sculpture out of coloured wire, melted plastic beads and forks. Got the forks and beads off freecycle and the wire only cost a couple of quid.

Talk to the Head of Art at your local secondary school. Perhaps you could get a couple of talented youngsters to make you something - offer to cover the cost of materials plus a bit for their work.
