Kitchen in summer unbearable

Hey there,
I have a south facing kitchen and because of the sudden souring in temperature it has become ridiculously hot in there, at least 5 Celsius higher than the rest of the house.
Put a fan in to make it slightly better for me in there cooking/washing up. But opening door or windows doesn't help as they're south facing into the garden as well - just means another way for the sun to get in if they're open.
Are there any relatively cheap ways of keeping the place a bit cooler? There is a blind for window, but nothing on the kitchen door other than frosted glass window. We're renting at the moment so attaching something like an awning outside isn't really an option.

I have a south-facing triple patio door in my living room...get some thermal lining for curtains, find a way to attach it to your blind/door, keep these shut to block the sun and the window and door open to allow air to circulate. Also if you have a parasol, open it to shade your window/door.
Edit: also leave the door between the kitchen and the rest of the house open. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Hang a couple of wet towels up at the windows.0

Move in a cheap fan heater to circulate the air a bit better. No free lunch, and no free laptop

How about putting a parasol outside the windows to shade them? One of my neighbours has done that.0

The key is to stop the sun's rays from entering your kitchen. Blackout blinds will do this. You can also try 'string' curtains across a door - then just leave the door open for ventilation.
An electric fan will keep you cool temporarily but its motor generates heat so will actually make your kitchen even warmer if there is no ventilation of the air in the kitchen.
In summary, try string curtains and/or blackout blinds and ensure that air is free to move through the kitchen - open windows and doors if you can do so safely but avoid sunlight getting into your kitchen.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -
Paint the glass in the windows and doors with a 50/50 mix of white emulsion and matt varnish.
Old trade trick for factory windows, and be scraped or soaked off for the winter;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Cavity wall insulation? Double glazing glass all in good condition? Insulation keeps the heat out as well as the cold, just doesn't come up too often in this country!0
