finally! i have a new comp with 1 gig ram as opposed to 128mb!! (you pleased for me 'tross? lol!)...ive copied everything over i can think of before i reformat the old one ready to flog..is there anything i may have forgotten (copied all the drivers, updates etc) and also, is there a way i can copy my wireless internet settings? my old laptop was wired to a router, sending the signal to a desktop downstairs. it was nightmare setting it up...ideas? cheers!

Wireless settings (encryption type, network password, SSID etc.) are stored in the router so there's no need to copy these settings on the computer. To connect wirelessly on the new computer, connect to the wireless network and paste in the password copied from the router.0

If you copy the C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername folder that will get everything - documents, favourites, photos, music etc, assuming you've stored them in My Documents, My Pictures etc. I wouldn't bother with drivers because the new computer will probably use different ones and in any case they are installed automatically when required or can be downloaded from the net.0

no i copied the drivers for the old comp as i downloaded loads for the display and trackpoint and stuff, when i reinstall windows on it it will need those too or the screen goes all flickery and the mouse thing goes mental..they are really old drivers as its an old comp so im just making sureFr. hope so lol! otherwise it won't be in a saleable condition-the drivers are very hard to find for it and noone wants a laptop with a mental mousepad and epilepsy inducing screen

Hi
Following on from this, I'm trying to add an additional laptop to an existing network using a Netgear wireless router. I don't know what the password is (can't find the instructions where I wrote it down) is there a way to obtain the password from the router or from the laptop that currently connects by wireless?

attach the laptop with a cable to the router
start run cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
launch ie and go here:

admin
password
look under wireless settings for the key, and copy and paste it into windows wireless settings
or..
run this on the working pc
