Copper or Flexi

Plumber fitted new kitchen taps for me.
He discarded the copper pipes and fitted flexi hose.
I was told they are easier to fit.
This may be so, but if this was meant to be the case, why do the suppliers not supply the flexi hose instead of the copper.
I feel he should have fitted the copper pipes that were supplied with the new taps.
Any health or other implications with flexi hose. ?
By the way, he told me he throws the copper pipes away. Yeah right, I have seen the price of copper.

Hi
I would agree that changing taps in some kitchens can be a real pain so yes I would change the tails if I thought it would make life easier.
There are some flexi tails on the market that use an inferior rubber liner and this might leach chemicals into the water. Not too much of a problem as turning the tap on will clear the water in seconds.Use tails that are WRAS approved such as Speedfit.
And yes copper is a good price !

The flexis are fine. And besides they'll cost more than the value of the copper that he apparently threw away. They will certainly cost more than the copper pipes supplied with the taps, which is why the manufacturers don't always supply them as standard.
I fit flexis when it is appropriate to do so. Flexis allow the pipes to move with changes in temperature and makes the job slightly easier. It also makes it easier if you ever need to change the taps or do other work ont the installation.
He's not trying to con you out of a couple of feet of copper pipe. If he is he's losing out.
He will have problems if he ever tries to fit standard flexis to Damixa taps. They have a left hand thread.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
flexi tails are easier to fit, and the tap suppliers supply copper as its cheaper. The quote to fit the taps didnt go up due to the flexi fittings, so therefore, i dont get what the problem isgo on, adopt a greyhound

About £2 a kilo at my local scrap yard. I doubt he'd be financing his holdiay on your copper tails but I suspect he may collect them along with all the copper pipe he rips out.
He may have to remove the brass threaded ends and weigh them in with the taps, which will also be brass. This commands a lower price but I still collect them.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

atticgirl, you need to remember that your plumber is a plumber, hence you got him in to change your taps. He used common sense, and did what he knows best.
I find it amazing you think he has done something wrong, and its a good example of how customers can get something in their heads, and cause tradesmen a headache.........for no reason at all.
I collect varoius metals in a box and put it in the recycle bin at the tip, as the amount you would collect to then drive to get a few pounds for bits of copper just aint worth it (for the amount i get anyway)go on, adopt a greyhound

I think you will find he has saved you money, as it is quicker to to fit them rather than messing about bending & soldering supplied tails. as you pay by the half hour generally.0

Seems you have all picked me up wrong.
Nowhere in my post did I say I was over charged by the plumber.
My question was, were there any health implications with flexi hose rather than copper.
Canucklehead was the only person to pick up on my question and give me a reply.
Maybe the rest of you should take a leaf out of his book and read the post before you jump in at the deep end.0 -
sorry atticgirl, there were 3 points to you post,
1 - why not fit copper
2 - is there any health implications
3 - getting money for copper tails
So, there was not just one question. Number 2 had been answered straight away (and is obvious anyway) so know one bothered replying to question number 2 again, and concentrated on question 1 and 3.go on, adopt a greyhound

As a throw away remark, you end your post by implying that your plumber is in some way thieving from you and even worse, lying about it. There is not a single tradesman I know that would put up with that sort of nonsense.
The poor bloke has done you a favour and look where it has got him - what a treat of a customer you are.
Tell me, how much do you think those two copper tails are worth?0
