Since all we know about the cabling is that it's a 'thick grey one', we don't even know if the existing cable and circuit protection is adequate for a 7Kw shower. By all means get a higher rated unit (7or 8kW is going to give a pretty miserable flow rate in anything but warm weather), but get the circuit uprated and RCD protected at the same time. The extra cost is not that great if the sparky is attending anyway.
There's no legal requirement to fit an RCD, but it would be foolish in the extreme not to have such protection on a shower circuit.No free lunch, and no free laptop
