Argos Buy Now Pay 6 Months Later Help! :)

Hi guys,

First up I appreciate what you guys do - it's nice to be able to get honest advice from real people!

I had two queries on this card - I've never had one before.

1) If I preorder an item, is the 6 month period from date of order, or date of receiving the item?

2) How do you avoid the final payment fee? For example, if I pay off to within a pound of the final payment, at what point can I pay that last pound off and avoid the fee?

Thanks for your time!

    Hi,

I've used the Argos Store Card a few times now because I find their interest free options very handy.
In my experience I believe the item is charged when ordered and then you have the 6 months interest/payment free. I always ensure I pay it all off before the interest free end date - which will be shown on your statements.
I was told by a friend that she didnt clear the balance after the 6 months and the put the whole 6 months of interest onto her balance.

just make sure that the total balance is clear before the interest free period ends.

it'll show each one on your statement with the amount remaining and the date it ends.

i would allow at least a few days before the end to pay it off. As if you miss the last payment, you will be charged interest on the whole balance for the whole of the interest free period.

The period starts when you make the order

Thanks for the response guys! I was under the impression you get charged for paying off early, is this not the case?

    No, this isn't the case.

I bought a wardrobe from them in February '13, on 6 months "interest free."

The balance was cleared by early April with no charge for early payment.

    HTH!

it basically works like a credit card. You can clear the balance at any time.

and when ever you pay off some of the balance it will also take it off the BNPL that is expiring first

No charges for clearing it early, and in fact this is the best plan.

As others have said just make sure it is cleared BEFORE the 6mth deadline, otherwise they charge you interest from the date of purchase.

So if you make a £300 purchase on Jan 1st on BNPL, your debt must be cleared before 1st Jun, even if you clear £299 by that date and only have a balance of £1 left. The interest will be charged on the whole £300 from 1st Jan.
