Petol or diesel
Looking at buying a new car soon and have the choice of a 1.4 petrol or 1.7 diesel. The difference in cost is approx £1500 but as my budget is pretty tight I was wondering if the diesel would pay for itself over the 3 years that I wish to have the car.
My weekly mileage is 200-225 a month.
A daily round trip to work is about 30 miles with around half of this on A roads, dual carriage ways the other is around town etc.
Estimated milage for the year would be between 10000 to 12000.
Road tax is £10 a year cheaper for the diesel.
Any advice welcome, thanks.

In most cases, the diesel should pay for it self on the simple fact that after 3 years, it will be worth more than the petrol car. The diesel is more economical and recently I have spotted diesel costing less at the pump too ... for me, it a no brainer. Unless you definitly havnt got the extra £1500, go for the diesel. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

I would agree. Your town mileage means that you should choose a diesel for max mpg.The man without a signature.0

I agree - go for the diesel - you may well save on servicing & repair costs if the cars a few years old. I've done the sums loads of times and always end up buying a diesel car.0
