most people who have well paying jobs and are busy with careers just dont have the time to get on the phone to shop around. Note, generally sales lines for insurance will be open on weekdays office hours and some time in weekends and evenings.

These people are the ones that insurance companies love and the ones who they catch out.

When I first started driving shopping around every year was indeed a PITA but nowadays it takes less than 5 minutes to stick my details into a price comparison website and I don't believe that anybody can be so busy that they can't do that. Granted the comparison sites don't always give you the best possible deal, but they usually bring up something significantly better than my renewal quote. The only thing which actually did take time this year was getting through to Direct Line's call centre (which is never NOT experiencing an exceptionally high number of calls) to tell them that no I didn't want them to help themselves to my money and renew my insurance automatically.

Try having your car written off, liability placed upon the other party, full payout and full NCD restored and then finding your insurance renewal has mysteriously gone up from £200 ish to £850 ish... Immediately cancelled that and went with a new insurer for pennies over £200. !!!!!!!s!

It's easy. Never renew. Confused.com and 5 mins later you are done. Simples.

It's OK if you have a straightforward record and happy to miss out some insurers like directline who dont get listed on price comparison sites.

But if you've had an accident and/or have complicated circumstances like unlisted occupation. The price comparison sites are next to useless.
