Door handle washers

Hello fellow money savers
I have a split spindle UPVC door handle and the other day the outer handle came off it's spindle
I removed the handles to see that what seemed to be a nylon washer had come loose and looked as if it has seen better days. Anyway...
(a) Am I correct that the plastic piece is indeed a nylon washer?
(b) Are they a universal size?
(c) Do I have to replace it with another plastic washer or can I get a metal one and "grease it up" to prevent friction and/or corrosion?
Many thanks for your help
