Hi CW - I'm up early most mornings - leave for work just after 6:30!
I've got no chance not putting heating on in our house but I turn it down to 15 at night and then 19 at 6:00. When I get home it's always higherIf at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -

Jeferey well done, must be an amazing feeling xx0

I don't often post on here but I do browse through regularly.
Well done Jeferey - you've been lucky having a time of low rates.
Our early house purchase days were when it was up to 15% - never really had the chance to pay off early but wonderful when you realise the house really belongs to only you.
How are you PM? Keeping cheerful and positive?0 -
Good morning everyone
Well done Jeferey, must be such a relief to pay off your mortgage early and know its completely yours.

Thanks PM, Red and CW, it sure is a relief! I've had a mortgage for 23+ years
Red, I remember my first house I bought in 1990 I got a fixed rate of 13.5% :eek:for 2 years just before the rates went up to 15%. I couldn't afford to actually move into it but I wanted to get on the housing ladder so I rented it out to a couple of New Zealanders for 2½ years and carried on living at home.
I've just had a look back in time and on Thu, 15 Nov 1979 the base rate was put up to 17% .
Long term average interest rates are around 5%. I heard on the radio that 75% of mortgages are variable so in a couple of years some people could be in for a shock when the interest rates start going up.......
