Laptop Fans Any Good?

I use a lapdesk which helps air circulate around the laptop as it does not directly sit with the bottom of the laptop covered.

I use it not only because it helps to keep the laptop cool but because you can use a mouse instead of the track pad on the laptop which drives me mad.

My laptop still gets hot & I am wondering if this is any good?

I'm not sure if the lap desk would sit on the lap fan pad . Has anyone used one & do they help keep the laptop cooler?
