How to keep my home safe?

surprised no-one has suggested the cheapest solution - sash jammers.
Why spend £30-50 on a new lock when a couple of £2 sash jammers will stop thieves entering even if they do break the lock?0 -
Safe: Friends tell me that burglars have gold detectors with them. My plans of keeping my jewellery in a unsuspecting place go for a toss then. Does anyone here have a safe? How is that installed? will a burglar not take the entire safe with him???
You can't detect gold like that. You can maybe run a metal detector but you need to file and acid test for gold.
Part of the point of a safe is that you can't move it; it either needs to be too heavy or bolted to something.
Most burglars are opportunists, they probably won't have any sophisticated equipment, will take anything obviously valuable and leave quickly. So making sure doors and windows are locked, and keeping things like laptops out of view is a good start.0 -
