Why do Vanquis keep doing this ?

If you want to talk about incompetency - go look at Capital One. They managed to get my middle initial and surname very wrong and yet still have it show up on my file as a credit search (despite declining me for the product... I wonder why!!!)
I had a middle initial wrong on a bank account, that was never sorted.
It reported correctly to the CRA's, so I wasn't too bothered, but can understand your frustration.
My HSBC card has done things strangely before now. We flew from Alaska to Vladivostok, and I had no problem until that afternoon when, after authorising a car purchase at a dealership (about US$1000), and having no problems identifying me at the VTB branch in the city (This was in the days that the two banks were interchangable in Russia, with regard to branches) it wouldn't work at a petrol station in Nakhodka, where we were spending the next few weeks.
The reason for this? A possible attempted fraud, as I'd used my card 11 hours after the transaction in the USA, according to HSBC!
Fraud systems are never going to be perfect, but at least it shows the bank are looking out for you.

I don't have any problem with any bank being vigilant against fraud. However, what I don't like is the invariable requirement to ring a premium (from a mobile) number to get it sorted out which is always "experiencing higher call volumes than normal" and where "your call is important to us".0

If you are referring to Vanquis I'm sure that they have both an 01xx and 0800 number to contact their CS.====0 -

Actually I'm more thinking of RBS and their interminable 0845 automated number that makes you go through three different transactions.
Yes, I know about saynoto0870 and I use it. Not everyone does though and I believe that companies should be obliged to publish a geographic number with equal prominence to any 08 numbers.0 -

Your wish will be law soon, there is a EU directive concerning this that needs to be made into UK law, the relevant legislation must be published before 13 December 2013, with application by 13 June 2014.
Article 21 of Directive 2011/83/EU on Consumer Rights, states:Member States shall ensure that where the trader operates a telephone line for the purpose of contacting him by telephone in relation to the contract concluded, the consumer, when contacting the trader is not bound to pay more than the basic rate.====0 -

You may actually find that a automated service is quicker than one handled by people.
Especially if you are calling out of normal operating hours.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Mmm yes but calling an 01/02/03 number and waiting for ages for a human to deal with the call is much cheaper (i.e. free) than an 0845 number, which from a mobile is typically 20p~45p / Minute.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I find Amex's quite useful. Asks for your card number and verification code and when you actually speak to someone it completely bypasses security. Lloyds, Capital One and MBNA all offer something similar. Makes it much more efficient, I normally can't remember some security question answers lol.0 -

Only if you have a contract phone with FREE mins.....
For the rest of us it makes no difference.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
