Renting a property with a previous CCJ

Hi all, i've posted this in the 'renting' section of the forum but thought it might be worthwhile sticking it in here, too. Apologies if that's frowned upon, by the way.

OK, i acquired a CCJ in 2007 due to debt accumulated through living away from home at University (daft, i know.)

This has since been settled, but i am guessing it will still have a negative impact on my chances of renting a property? Me and my partner - who has never had a CCJ - are looking to move into our first property together, but from what i've heard my previous CCJ (even though it's been settled) will stand against us?

Also, does anyone know of any other factors which may affect our chances of letting?

Thanks for reading.

Jamie.

When in 2007 did you get the CCJ ?
as it should drop of your file after 6 years.

It might have an impact on renting, but it'l be a lesser impact than a mortgage.

have you checked your credit files recently to see whats on them ?

i assume your not currently renting now, so are you still at home ?

6 years after the date (as in day one of year 7) of the default it MUST be removed from your credit file! It will automatically vanish from it and if not give the Credit Agency a hard time to ensure it's done. If they ignore you, which they will then complain through the ICO and whilst it'll probably be another 9 months at least it'll vanish.
Oh for the days of drink and merriment and whatever! LOL

If the rest of the credit file is clean then it may not be a problem. Offer an additional month's rent as deposit if you can afford it and it's raised as an issue.
