Renting a property with a previous CCJ

Hi all, first post. Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find another thread and need some information.

OK, i acquired a CCJ in 2007 due to debt accumulated through living away from home at University (daft, i know.)

This has since been settled, but i am guessing it will still have a negative impact on my chances of renting a property? Me and my partner - who has never had a CCJ - are looking to move into our first property together, but from what i've heard my previous CCJ (even though it's been settled) will stand against us?

Also, does anyone know of any other factors which may affect our chances of letting?

Thanks for reading.

Jamie.

Are you sure you have a CCJ, normally if you pay as the court states, IE in the timeframe set, you do not actually acquire a CCJ

It was late 2007, so the six years hasn't yet elapsed. I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that, even when settled, a CCJ remained on your credit file forever?

If you settle within 28 days of the CCJ begin issued then it won't go on your credit file.

other wise it will stay on for 6 years (and another month as this takes time to update)

After 6 years (and a bit of time for their system to catch up) even if a ccj is unpaid, it drops off your file. If you search for it on the trustonline website (the official register of ccjs) it no longer appears, it also won't appear on any credit reports (IIRC its something to do with data protection, they aren't allowed to keep records for over 6 years, so anything past that point has to be gotten rid of).

Edit: if you wait until you can no longer find it on http://www.trustonline.org.uk/ then any possible Landlord/Letting Agent wont be able to find it either
