Hi all,

I am owed around 6 weeks of statutory sick pay. This would have covered April 1st to mid May and I have only just received form SSP1 from my company.

Presume the delay will not cause any problems?
Am I able to go to any Job Centre Plus?
Am I able to book an appointment or do I need to go along and turn up on the day?
Any idea how long the claim takes to go through?

    Can you please clarify.

Are you working at the moment?

If you have received a SSP1 this seems to suggest that you were not eligible for Statutory Sick Pay from your employer. Is this correct?

What do you want from the Job Centre? Do you want to claim a benefit? If so, which one?

I received SSP1 as my company sick leave entitlement for a 1 year period had ended at the end of March. This entitlement only included 2 weeks SSP.

However, I had not been continually off sick for 26 weeks which is how long SSP can be claimed for. So they said to take the form to the Job Centre Plus and claim the remainder through them. I am still not working at the moment but the SSP period of 26 weeks would have ended in mid May and therefore I hsve been advised to claim for 6 weeks SSP. I have only just received the form.

As per the title of my thread, I want to claim SSP which I have calculated 6 weeks of which is due.

If your employer is saying that you are no longer eligible for SSP and they have given the reason on the SSP1 then you should have put in a claim for Employment Support Allowance as soon as your SSP ended. Your employer should have given you the form then.

You will not be paid Statutory Sick Pay as a benefit. This is something that an employer pays. You must claim ESA instead.

The best thing I can advise is that you call in/telephone Job Centre Plus and explain what has happened and then act on their advice

Think that is my best approach. My company have issued SSP1 as I have received 26 weeks pay in the past year as I was also off sick in March, April and May 2012. Whereas since I was back at work for 5 months the SSP allowance should start again from when I was off sick in late November.
