in Cutting tax
Hi guys,
I received a letter (p800) from hmrc about 6 weeks ago saying that i had underpaid tax for 2011/12 by £208 (which was when i switched jobs) and my tax code for this year would be adjusted to 839L and they would contact the jobcentre, which was fine and i understand this.
I now have received a letter saying that that they would normally collect this by reducing my tax code but cannot do this, and that because they cannot do this i have options below, which they is only one, paying in full by 30 july 2013.
I can not afford this at all is there anyother way of dealing with this.

Hi blackburn_w
If you cannot afford to pay you should phone the number on your P800 and ask for payment options: see section
"If you can't afford to pay the tax you owe" on the link below
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/p800.htm#4
Bear in mind the section in the above guidance re means tested benefits - see section "If you are on means-tested benefits"

Agree with above. They can't collect it via your code as you aren't earning enough to trigger any tax currently, and a reduction in your allowances of £1040 (i.e. to collect at 20% = £208) wouldn't change that.
You can ask for a time to pay arrangement, they are generally quite happy to agree something as long as you then stick to it in my experience0
