Wood flooring "bubbling" - Need advice please

Hi folks,

In need of some advice please. As you can see from the photo below the wood flooring in our hallway has bubbled. Currently it is getting worse by the day. The bubble nearest the door on the left (our bathroom) has been there for 6 months or so (maybe more) but over the last month the bubble has spread.

I've had a mate round who's a plumber, he took the bath panel off to have a look if there was a leak from the shower but he's certain there isn't. He did say however that as we dont have an extractor fan in our bathroom there is a lot of moisture beneath the bath which may be causing the problem. He said to hire a de-humidifier to get rid of the moisture and to get a fan fitted to the external wall.

We've just been away for the weekend and come back to it having got noticeably worse so is he right or could it be something else? We've been in the house nearly 4 years and this has only happened in the last 6 months or so, so this is why i think it might be something other than the moisture issue.

Can anybody provide any advice please on how to deal with this.

    What's up with the wall?

In that wall is where the pipes for the shower are. It doesn't feel wet though?

Forgot to mention as well that the inside of the door frame is wet from the floor up 4/5 inches.

It's common for wood flooring to do thus . it's all mdf underneath with a very thin veneer of wood on top. If water gets through the gaps it warps the mdf and you get that result. Would be wise to take these off and replace with whole wood flooring and not cheap mdf.

Or just be very careful with moisture and spilling

It's not common for this to happen until you introduce moisture.

Looks like there has been damp in the wall too. Is the floor concrete?

You need to get the floor up and explore further.

looks like laminate flooring to me...
in my experience, once it's water damaged there is nothing you can do apart from replace it... I would lift the floor and try to find and address the cause of the damage, does look a bit suspicious that there's a bubble of plaster just above it too where there are pipes in a wall, good starting point

    Yes it's a concrete floor.
  • The most likely problem is in the wall, so open it up where the plaster/board has blown.
