Probably best to reduce your costs OP!!

A recommendation from someone who has aparently let a £400 loan become £20k is not one I'd take.

    Hi all,

    Advice would be amazing.

I get married on the 1/9/13, and we are struggling to stump up around £4000 to complete paying everything off.

The problem is, both our credit ratings are shot; my fianc!es due to her previous partner and a huge amount of debt he created as well as ruining her mortgage for her, and mine, for issues with direct debit disputes between bank and phone company, and a final payment problem on a car loan which lasted 4 months.

I'm running out of time, and frankly I can't take it.

I need a loan, and I'm on a good income, but because my credit rating is so shot, I can't get one.

Can anyone offer advice of where to look?

    Thank you!
Been there done that. Came on here and got much negative reponses than you:cool:
I put mine on me credit cards and 2 days after the honeymoon my bank phoned up and offered me a personal loan to pay off the majority of it. I am willing to bet you cant scale back anymore, I researched my wedding 24/7 and the wife even more so. Not nice when everything wants paying at once but if your earning expect a very tigh belt fo a couple of pay days then it should be fine.

Right, a "couple of paydays", and they'll have managed to pay back £4,000, despite not having been able to save up the required amount in the god-knows how many months since they first got engaged.

Sorry, but attitudes like yours, of "hey, spend it, it'll all be cleared if you just cut back for a few weeks" are the reason that people end up in real trouble.

Who said that? Mony will b tight for a couple of months whilst they have to pay everything. The 4k wont be paid back. Unless the op is earning real good money. Planned any weddings lately? No? Then maybe your not in a position to help or even comment.
  • Can't scale back any more? What are you on about goonarmy?

My wedding cost around £1500 all in. But then I am a bargain hunter.

Whilst I would love to spend £10k on a wedding, my practical mind will just not allow me to do such a thing. I couldn't get my head around the fact that, for one day only, I would spend that much money. I get the appeal, I really do, but my main focus was on the fact that I was taking vows and entering into a marriage rather than just having 'one day'.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your spin on things - I see it as fortunately), we didn't want to spend thousands of pounds on giving other people a fantastic free day of food and excitement, we decided to spend less on that and more on a 3 week honeymoon just for us. And our wedding day was still wonderful, the food was fantastic and was tailored to us rather than some hotel's conveyor belt menu. Still, each to their own.

How does it prover your piont.

Rabbit_burrow had the wedding they wanted, but didn't end up in debt for the next 5 years doing it.

I know which position I'd rather be in.
