Do I need to give notice to terminate my tenancy?

I have a one year tenancy. Do I need to give notice to end it at the end of the one year, or does it terminate automatically and I can just tell the landlord without notice?

I can't see any provisions in the AST. It requires 2 months notice to terminate the agreement after six months (i.e. the break clause) but doesn't say what happens at the end of the one-year term...

Thanks!

My tenancy was fixed for six months and then it went onto rolling. The landlord could give me 2 months notice to leave and I have to give 1 months notice.

You can leave on the last day of the fixed term without notice, but if you stay one day longer it moves onto a rolling (statutory periodic) tenancy and you need to give one rent periods' notice.

Whilst it's true that you don't have to give any official notice to end a tenancy it is only polite to tell the LA/LL that you are leaving at the end of the fixed term (if that is what you want)

To be honest they usually write to you to ask what you are intending to do.

If they don't write to you then I personally would let them know your plans. After all how do you have an inventory done/get your deposit back etc etc if you don't let them know?
