Laptop harddrive has died?

i'm by no means an expert but i think my harddrive has finally packed in.

I'm getting a disk read error upon startup, and i can hear a horrible whirring noise, which i assume is my knackered harddisk

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how difficult this is to replace, as i hope to be able to do it myself. im hoping i just pull the old drive out and replace it with a new one. its a Toshiba Equium A60 and about 3 or 4 years old.

if you could point me towards any guides on the web i would be most grateful
