Switching to Halifax Reward Account - query

I have applied to switch to the Halifax Reward account. Does the Switching process also include moving the balance of you existing account over to the new one or should this be done via bank transfer once the details for the new account have been received? I am just thinking ahead as I did not want an overdraft but I want to ensure that my balance is sufficient for DD's going out.
Sorry if this is a silly question or been answered elsewhere I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.

It depends on what you requested on the switching form/the advisor requested on your behalf.

The balance of your existing account will only be transferred if you selected the option to close your existing account. If you only opted to transfer credits and debits then the funds in your existing account will stay there. The Switching Team will be able to check if the request to close and transfer balance has been selected - 0845 602 5293

I authorise and instruct you to:

    • Contact my existing bank/building society to request a list of Direct Debits and standing orders which apply to that account and authorise the cancellation of all Direct Debits and standing orders on that account.
    • Contact those Direct Debit companies to request that future Direct Debit payments are collected quoting my Halifax sort code and account number.
    • Set up those standing orders on my Halifax current account.

  • Thanks both for the replies. Never switched banks before so I am a bit nervous about it. As I applied online will I have to go in to a branch with ID docs?

Halifax will ask for ID if they want it.

I've opened accounts without having to go into a branch but have found it is not possible to close accounts (even savings accounts with zero balance for over a year and no interest due) except by going to a branch and providing passport or driving licence ID.

I switched to Halifax a few years ago. Not impressed by their switching team - 3 weeks had gone and they hadn't even started - so I did it myself in an hour. However, I've not had any issues since.
  • Im going thro this right now with leaving Barclays after 30 odd years, theyre massively incompetent Halifax "switch team" and blame it on the fact that ive joined via online form not in branch.
They undermine their own staff by saying "branch staff aren't experienced in their job and don't know about this side of the business" my branch agrees they've failed me and are messing things up.
My mortgage nearly de faulted this week. I had to go to nationwide in person with cash notes to pay it. According to the fools at "switchteam" its up to me to tell my employer !!! even my wages wont swap without me doing the leg work AGAIN !
what the hell to switch team do!???.....right a few DD letters and sit back to view the mess?? its a bag of spanners that's sold as an easy dream....a bunch of incompetents
Ive emailed david Nicholson three times, the ceo, complained by phone, email etc etc AWFUL

Hopefully you're eligible for the £100 bonus - in which case just think of it as being paid £100 to do all the "legwork"
  • I already have as that's all that's in my new account, this is why theres problems with my mortgage payment. it wont leave the account and cant be with drawn out the new.....this is why it falls down as a process. its stuck in between.....
Do Halifax tell you about this......HELL NO !!
