Does having a 1st Direct current account and a savings account give you an advantage of getting a credit card with them?
Has anyone had some adverse credit history but a well run CA with them and successfully received a credit card when other mainstream lenders decline?
TIA

Your bank is often the easiest place to get a credit card simply because they have a more details overview of your financial situation than most other lenders - a report from the credit reference agencies doesn't give information about current/savings accounts.
For what it's worth, I applied and was successful for a FD credit card just after I opened a current account with them last year. Why not just ring them and ask about it - they set great store in being easy to communicate with after all!0 -
The savings account has no relevance, but their credit card page says this:
"This promotion is only available to new first direct customers who hold a 1st Account and do not hold a first direct Credit Card and have not held a credit card with first direct within the previous 6 months."
I don't know what they mean by "new", or whether the "promotion" means the credit card as a product or just the BT offer, but I interpret that as meaning you can't get a FD credit card unless you have a FD 1st account.
On that basis, I would say that having a 1st account gives you an excellent advantage over non-FD customers if you want their credit card.0 -
I have a FD 1st account and applied for a credit card back in 2010 (opened 1st account in 2009) when I was 20. I was declined due to my credit report, which at the time had many searches (18), and quite few new accounts, none older than a year or two.
I've never tried since (0 searches and many successful payment accounts), as their credit cards do not offer anything amazing.0
