Motorcycle shipping/delivery UK
HI everyone,
Can anyone recommend the best way to ship and project motorbike from Scotland to the northeast of England, It's about a 6 hour driver and with fuel and van hire I wondering if their is a cheaper alternative, ie by courier? It is about 2.035m length, 0.9 width and should weigh 108kg.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can hire bike trailers if you have a car with a towbar or know someone who does.
Or hire a Transit sized van, load it in, stapr it down securely (take a load of old cushions, foam, whatever you can find) and do it that way. I don't think I'd trust it to a courier.
Or lastly, ask a recovery firm how much to transport it - might be pricey, but they should have the right equipment to do it.0 -
Offered my bike trailer to someone today, they thought a courier would be cheaper (probs around 250 miles max).0

Thanks everyone,
Tow bar isn't an option unfortunately as my licence doesn't cover me for one. I have tried Shiply.com before but all I got was a virus on my computer from one of the qoute, so want to avoid that happening again.
I am waiting for a quote from a delivery "specialist" delivery firm that operates through ebay, anyone else tried this option before?
Thanks again.0 -
What license have you got?
All standard UK licenses allow towing, with various restrictions, but most should be fine for a motorbike trailer since it'll only be at most 100kg empty.0 -
When I sold my two classic bikes a couple of years ago I just rented a Renault van locally and strapped one each side with plenty of padding. They also supplied a ramp with the van, which fitted nicely down the middle between the two bikes. Did the driving myself and took a friend to give me a hand loading. It cost about £90 with the fuel.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

I prefer anyvan.com - same thing, cheaper fees!
The easiest way to strap a bike down is get someone (large) to sit on it, then fasten it down, when they get off and the suspension unloads, it pulls the strap/rope tight.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Given it's only 2.5 hours tops from the central belt to the north east of england I guess you are right out in the Highlands.
What's it goign for? is it a runner? Could someone ride it with you following in a car or meet them at a train station? What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
