Is it worth haggling with Virgin Holidays?

We are looking a holiday with Virgin and got a quote. We like virgin as we've used them before and quite enjoyed the service. But I looked on a comparison site and found the same flights and hotel for several hundred less. Is it worth ringing Virgin to ask if they can match it? Do they do this sort of thing? Ill probably try anyway buy just es wondered if anyone has been successful?

Why don't you just go with the cheaper option rather than messing about?

Because I like virgin holidays. I've used them before, but the other company is one I've never heard of so don't know what they are like.. But the difference is significant.

depending on the other company you may find that the price they advertise does not exist and the actual price may be a lot closer to Virgins

    Fair enough.

    Try Expedia they do flight/hotel/car
  • After going to Florida several times I can safely tell you virgin holidays aren't that great. What's the other travel agent? You could always try haggling with Virgin, but it's very likely it won't work.

Virgin Holidays do pricematch but you need a written quote from the other provider who must be ABTA bonded.

They aren't so hot in simply negotiating. Of cause assuming it is an actual Virgin Holiday you are booking and not just a virgin flight + a hotel that you happen to book via virgin, then other travel agents do sell virgin product and may be more open to pricing discussions. I know when I was looking at Kuoni -v- Virgin for a holiday a few years ago that travel agents were much more willing to do deals on Virgin than either kuoni or vigin themselves.

We have used virgin several times and always been very happy. Once we even got free upper class flight upgrades from economy!! :)

The other agent is holidaygenie.co.uk I've never heard of them. They are ABTA and Atol but on closer inspection I think the price they quote might not be the price you actually get as someone else said!

from what I understand that's virtually unprecedented - you must be a very lucky person indeed! :)

VH have always been vastly overpriced against DIY so we have avoided them and will continue to do so.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
