Cost 400 about 4/5 years ago for this new carpet in 2 double bedrooms. After letting out its got dirty. Even worse as you can see there are damp marks underneathwhere ive pulled back the carpet. Before i found this i was going t have them cleaned but now thinking of

Replacing with laminate. The cause of the damp has been fixed now.
The question is, is the carpet & underlay a write off?

What is the carpet made of, wool or a synthetic fabric?
You could try cleaning off the mould with a mould cleaner & then if you know anybody with a steam cleaner, try that on the carpet to see if it shifts the marks.
Or with the underlay, you could replace just the area that has been damaged with new, to save you having to dispose of the whole lot of it.
I personally loathe laminate in bedrooms, but if the flat is going to be let out, then that might be your best option if you can't salvage the carpet. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I don't think it's wool, it was a cheap-mid range carpet when bought. It's had 2 tenants since it was fitted both around 2 years each. During the first tenancy mould was a big problem (on the walls/ceilings) and must be how the carpet got stained.
Not planning on letting out again, will look to sell in about 6-10 months time. The carpet already has stains which is why I had in mind a professional clean for £55 but now I've seen the mould underneath I don't think it's worth it.
There is a noticable smell (to me of dogs) when you go in the carpeted rooms and I worry about the mould being dormant and reactivating if it gets humid again causing health problems? I might just throw it out and go back to the original vinyl ( I think) tiles which were fitted on the concrete, and fit laminate nearer the time I sell it?0
