Default Notice By BT

Posts: 25 Forumite
Just after some advice I went a through bad spell back in 2007 speration all that I had a BT mobile which had £65 left on which I was unaware of at that time begining 2008 I went bankrupt the last recording of this outstanding amount was Jan 2008 on my Equifax file then is shows Query every month till Jan 2011 when BT put a default notice on me I never had any letters from Bt about this outstanding amount I have tried to contact them to tell them this debt should have gone in with my bankruptcy but they refused to talk to me and kept telling me to raise a dispute with Equifax so now this wont come off my file till 2017 so the debt will have been on there for 10 years I did get a letter of them saying during that time 2008 to 2011 BT were doing internal analysis from 2008 to 1012 and only updated in 2012 surely this cant be right.

If the default was valid, then BT must backdate it to at least the date of your bankruptcy order in 2008.

Sorry I got the date wrong for my bankruptcy I went bankrupt in 2006 the question is now can I get them to put that default notice back to Jan 08 when the last recorded payment was made and the query marks started I was never notified by BT I even had a new account with BT in oct 2010 and they never said anything about an outstanding amount and I feel this to be unfair that they carry out there own comapny anaylsis which takes three years to complete then default me. This will have been on my credit file for 10 years surely thats not right.0

letter of complaint followed by a letter to the data protection folks.0

I had a couple of inaccurate defaults from BT appear on my file last year.
Raised formal written complaint and escalated to ombudsman. Defaults removed and £150 apology from BT.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Can you give me an adress please.0 -
If the default was 2 years after the BR, I don't believe it could ever have been 'rolled in' with it, so an appeal on that basis would fail.
Getting it corrected to show the correct date is the best step, as if dated 2012 erroneously, you can insist that it is established the date is 2008, which means it will be coming off in the next 12 months.0 -

I managed to get them to remove it all together or do this can someone tell me what my best option is.
I have had an answer on the issue with your credit report. I can confirm we are able to make the below amendments;

- We will be able to update the record as paid in full and settled as of 13/02/2008. This is based on the fact that the data surrounding the default is now archived and therefore we cannot confirm the exact circumstances that lead to this being filed.
- Once the account is settled and the date updated, we can leave the account in place or have it deleted all together.

Before considering if you would like the account deleted or not, please firstly seek some advice on what would be the best option to strengthen your credit file. In some circumstances a settled account would look better in your favour than a deleted account. Equifax would be the best people to advise you on this.

I will leave this with you over the weekend and call you on Monday to see what you would prefer to do. In the mean time please get in touch if you need anything more from me.0 -
If there will be no late payment or AP markers or default recorded against the account, it's better to leave it on your credit file.
However given the age of the account any positive effect would be so slight it fades into insignificance.
In the interest of being safe, I'd personally ask it be removed altogether.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
