Badness with flatscreen monitor

We bought a new flatscreen monitor a couple of months ago (it's an LG Flatron Wide if that's relevant).

A few days ago I noticed a couple of blue spots in the bottom of the screen, which seem to be getting bigger and creeping up the screen from the edge over the last couple of days. Now the top left hand corner of the screen has bluish colour starting too and creeping along the top of the screen! It seems like the picture is being 'eaten' from the edges and being replaced with blue and turquoise patches.

I guess we need to rake out the receipt and take it back (it was a display model) but any ideas what's causing it? It hasn't been knocked or moved and the room isn't damp.

Only seen anything similar with a cracked screen - possibly been screwed into the mounting a bit too energetically? I'd return it, doubt if it'll suddenly recover.

It's a shame that it's sometimes much easier to deal with the manufacturers when it's the retailer who is legally responsible.

return it to the retailer as superscaper hints at it is faulty initially I thought it was a dead subpixel just stuck on blue but it seems to be somthing else.

Me too until I read that the problem seems to be creeping. With it being a display model it wouldn't surprise me if the manufacturer caused trouble in not wanting to replace it. Personally as I "hinted" (:)) at earlier my first port of call would be the shop I bought it from. Don't be fobbed off with having no consumer rights because it is an ex display model. The law still applies.

I guess we don't have to mention that it was a display model if we contact LG. If I told you we bought it from Curry's would you cry?!

I do remember urging caution when OH was parting with the cash though, because despite the store having none boxed in stock the guy who served us announced that there wouldn't be any discount to be had since it had only been on display since the previous day ... !

If there was no discount then as far as you're concerned it wasn't even sold as an ex-display model. I'd still go through Currys first on principle as they're the ones responsible. But it's up to you, a lot of manufacturers do ask whether you've contacted the retailer first.

Thanks everyone for the help - I contacted Currys who referred me to some random middleman who referred me to LG. LG were really nice, basically they're sending a replacement by courier in 2 days time as a direct exchange. I've never experienced such an easy company to deal with, to the extent that I don't even care that the monitor's broken in the first place!

The woman on the phone said it sounded quite weird, although my explanation of the problem was possibly a little incoherent ... I'd be interested to know what fault yours had globalds. The reviews I have seen were all positive.

And again a retailer passes the buck and flouts the sales of goods act.

I know the result is positive but when you bought the monitor the contract was between yourself and currys, therefore currys are responsible for the item not LG.
