New to food processors

I picked up a Braun Multipractic food processor for a £1 at the local fair yesterday. It works perfectly - has the slicing/shredding disc and the french fries disc but not the cheese grater one. (Identified the parts from the Braun website) Also has a juicer attachment and a few other parts that I can't identify but are possibly a citrus press.
I've never had a food processor before and would be grateful for recommendations of ways to use it to get the best from it in an OS way. I already have a hand blender and hand held cake mixer which I use regularly.

    Hi vfairbrass,

I find that I'm using my food processor less and less because I prefer my handblender and hand mixer because they are so much easier to clean.

We have lots of threads on food processors that might help. Click here but the link will only last for a little while as search links seem to expire after a while.

Also have a look at these threads:

I've just bought http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4205595.htm (much more than your bargain £1 find well done!)

So far milkshakes, cake mixes inc the yoghurt one but not much else yet, mine came with a recipe book so going to try some (the yorkshire pudding recipe was useless) taking some getting used to what each bits for, also thinking now where to store the parts as the box is huge!

Do plan on making coleslaw as there is just me who eats it and buying it made means I waste a lot of it.

Oh and a right pain if like me you don't have a dishwasher!
One day I might be more organised...........

Well I really hope this thread gets loads of replies as i've just bought one and I need inspiration!

I went out looking for a magimix but found this cuisinart for £109 on Debenhams clearance!! http://www.johnlewis.com/Home+and+Garden/Kitchen/Food+and+Drink+Preparation/Food+Processors+/545/230222108/Product.aspx

Now I know nothing about the Cusinart brand but I believe its on a par with magimix in America so I do hope its ok!

I used mine yesterday to chop some mushrooms up finely to make a sauce for steak... very nice!

I've looked online and Cuisinart seem to be highly regarded on the US forums so I feel a bit better now that its not a magimix lol!

You should be able to get the grating disc from the manufacturers....grating cheese and potato for rosti..........cakes, bread if you have the plastic kneading knife..........chopping, rather than miincing meat for burgers etc....I have one which I use quite a lot, but I must admit I find it tedious to clean. As a liquidiser for soups etc...........

I use mine for making pastry - just chuck it all in, whizz around, then add water and whizz again. Also for grating lots of cheese or carrot/chopping lots of onions, making breadcrumbs, chopping nuts.
I wouldn't cook as much from scratch if I didn't have it as I hate all those fiddly tasks.

I bought a Magimix with some of the money reclaimed from bank charges (thank you Martin). As my hands are rubbish I use it nearly every day....
make bread (v simple Italian style), make breadcrumbs - for meatloaf etc. Make mince with leftover roast (if there is any). Make pizza bases. Make mayo - which is pretty fab & loads better than Hellmans - vary the mustards & the oils. Make cakes. Crush Ice (for Pimms darlings - ok Aldi lookey likey) etc etc & I'm thinking of saving up for the juicer thingie...best wishes Mx
