Is that just fuel or heating or does that include your electricity as well?
We put in a GSHP with 500m of loops and our total energy bill is running at about 10,000kW per annum. Unfortunately our electric tariff has gone up 25% this year which hurts a bit.0 -

My meter readings tell me I am spending less that £5 a week heating the HW in summer. Whilst I would like a solar HW system, I'm guessing it wouldn't pay back for decades!!0 -

I would question the recommendation for solar thermal. I use the electric from pv panels to heat up water - I need to do something with it and not let it go to waste!
Pv panel costs continue to fall and must be close to solar thermal on costings. This was not the case two years ago. So where is the benefit in having solar thermal?0 -

It's what I said, our TOTAL energy bill and that is gas, electric and all associated standing charges. Even in the depths of winter we only had to put heating on for 2 hours to put some heat into the underfloor and upstairs for half an hour before we turned in . This kept our living area temperatures at 23.5 C. As a bonus we got a one off payment of £300 from the Government for allowing them to monitor our energy usage. You scullion! You rampallian! Eco houses .... are for the already rich to think they are saving money.
If I had £325k I could buy a £200k house and spend £125k over the rest of my life worrying about the bills. A figure from above of £2.5k/year means my way ends up cheaper

that's not right at all - the design and layout of a house can contribute significantly to reducing energy use, it doesn't necessarily make it more expensive to build - hence the op building for around 1k per m2This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
