Board etiquette question

Please help.
I am just hoping to get peoples opinion on the etiquette of the posts on this comp post:-
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4686147
I was quite flabberghasted that someone who hadn't made a single post, let alone a comp post could come on and make their first post a nasty one.
I didn't think the OP had done anything wrong, and was not rude- other posters may have been rude though.
I did try and get the person who made the post to apologise, but I got a nasty reply.
Any thoughts on this???

Looks like another case of not being able to 'sense the tone' of the written word. To be honest, you can read any of the posts in that thread in more than one way.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

The whole thread is a bit tetchy but tbh people are allowed opinions...0

Something and nothing and certainly not worth getting upset about or starting a whole thread over. The poster simply said 'how rude'. Don't see how that is nasty etc. Wasn't even said to you. No, the OP wasn't rude but was maybe lacking in a sense of humour. No idea why the new member said 'how rude' but hardly worth a threadAugust-September 2017: Lots of stuff

It is worth a thread when someone who posts loads of comps is called rude for doing nothing wrong by someone who only joined to call her rude.I am a Random Number!(£174)

Personally I read it as the guy just making a joke, not meaning offense and the OP just took it in a way different to that in which it was intended. Then a random user misinterpreted the tone of the OP, saw it as them being rude and commented to that effect.
Just a misunderstanding, from where I'm sitting, bit too insignificant to get involved in and get certain undergarments twisted about!Started 30/08/2011Biggest Wins: GHD's, 5* Trip to London, VIP Trip to Isle of MTV Festival in Malta.
Thanks so much to all who post0 -
Looks like a multi who signed up to post that cos they didn't have the balls to do it with their 'proper' MSE IDUEFA: Corrupting Football Since 1954 #CTID0

Agree with MaineBlue, but honestly setting up second accounts justto be rude, do these people really have nothing better to do with their time. Not only is it cowardly but the pettiness is unbelievable.Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!
Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
Wishing all a little luck:beer:0 -

People don't get some sort of special status by being on here a long time, people posting comps can't expect everyone to like them or not make comments, it's a discussion board and no one was being spiteful as such, but comments about a comp got taken personally. Plus if reading it back, mrbumfart is not even rude in the first post, he was just reacting to charchar getting narked at people not liking the comp, but then reacted after being 'told off' by yourself.0 -
I haven't read your thread but in principal - It is unsettling when one or a few stalwart posters pick something you've said out of context and hone in on making their point.
I was told not to criticise a long serving poster who is regarded as the nicest and most respected poster on MSE.
I'd only apologised for upsetting the poster when she said something I'd said was negative and untrue. I'd said " I rest my case".
I had no idea about the posters special status and I didn't think what I said was offensive.
I felt ganged up on. It was quite a shock and, for the first time I fully understood why MSE say "be nice to newbies". It made me feel like resigning but I just left the thread and ignored it. I avoid threads where I see the people involved are participating. I've not had a problem since.
Some people like a good argument and can handle a more aggressive style better than others.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.0 -

If the OP was that bothered they would have made a thread. Also although i don't think the OP was rude in any way, they did come across as slightly patronizing. Unsure why you feel it has anything to do with you when the OP you say was targeted isn't bothered. Also before i unsubscribe from this ridiculous thread, unless you are psychic you have no idea why someone felt a poster had been rude and comp posters, long time members, new members and someone who has never posted a comp are all equal here. All people deserve respect both old and new alike, there was nothing in that thread that showed any disrespect to anyone. All the poster said was 'how rude' and you've made a molehill into a mountain. God knows how you get through real life if something so petty gets you so angry. No disrespect in that thread at all. This thread however is a different attention seeking matter .....
