Tax credits application form

I am filling in the tax credits form for the first time and wondered if anyone can help.

The form asks for pay details for April 2012--April 2013 which is fine, but i know through a new job I have that my income for April 2013-April 2014 will be considerably more than the figures I am able to put on the form.

What do I do?

Fill in the form with the figures from the years they have asked for. Then call them to let them know what your estimated income is for this tax year.

Or call them and ask what you should do and explain that you don't want to end up with a massive overpayment.

Is there a box on the form you can tick that asks if you expect your income to be the same or not this year?

Fill in the form, and then call them once they've received your forms to update the pay details for this year.

The correct procedure is to fill in the form and wait for the award to arrive then when you have that ring them up and revise your expected income. They will then send out a new award with revised award details adjusted for the rest of this tax year.

    HiToAll.

After helping a couple of friends with WTC overpayment issues, I strongly recommend that you read the Notices they send to you with a fine tooth comb and understand them!

On one form a statement said an overpayment will be due of nearly £700, but would not be taken at this time because they did not want to cause financial difficulty. Roll on two years, they ask for the money in full - guess what causing financial difficulty!

My friend is the simply case - single adult, no children, no disabilities. Income has remained the same for 3 years! Just over the minimum wage for 30 hours a week. Yet they can not apply their look up table for the correct amount of WTC entitled. My friend has been stung with another overpayment of £340. I will be reviewing the paperwork this weekend -oh joy.

Personally, if you do not really need WTC, do NOT apply for them. You may get more Housing Benefit for not receiving WTC... If you must put them in an ISA with good interest and do not spend it...

    Good luck,
    John
