SatNav on your phone ?

After some help on this site we were all set to buy my brother a satnav for his 50th birthday - then my techie nephew showed his new phone Xda Orbit with satnav on it. My brother has one of these too maybe an older model - and thought it might be as well to buy him the satnav software for his phone or upgrade his phone for him instead of the satnav.
What do you guys think? Thanks

We have it on a phone and PDA here, get a cheap bluetooth GPS receiver and the necessary software (make sure it's compatible, I have the XDA II and TomTom 6 is fully compatible and runs well). Overall it may well cost just as much as upgrading the phone though as the software itself is not cheap.

You need the mobile version of tom tom, I use a PDA nd its a different version with version 6 they were suposed to merge the 2 versions but I don't think it happened.

We use V6 on PDA and smartphone, works well on both but again it can cost just as much to buy the software etc as it would to upgrade the phone. Apparently there are ways of getting the software free but I wouldn't condone discussing ppcwarez here.

TomTom6 is a lot better software to use than the software Nokia have put on the N95.

If you're going for a bluetooth receiver, i'd suggest a Sirf III model. These tend to hold better signals.
