Laptop Probs- Can You help

Have a Compaq Laptop-
today screen died- goes straight to
Black Page- asking to Start windows in safe mode etc- try each one- but just returns to the page agin
have tried all f keys to no avail-

is this ready 4 bin or can anyone help

any other error message ?? disk error or something ??

a repair of XP may get it back up and running

any important stuff you want off it ??

As Browntoa says, this sounds like a software issue more than anything and a format or repair install should suffice.

thanks, but whatever i do keeps returning to black screen asking if i want to go safe mode etc etc.
just keeps returning to this screen

As sugested above there are 2 things it can be either a hardware problem normally a disk error or a software problem.

next time you switch it on tap the F8 key once a second just after turning it on and before you get the starting windows xp screen you will get a more advanced startup menu. One of the options is to disable the auto reboot on system failure it will then allow you to read the error message that is being displayed

It is more than likely somthing that can easily be fixed with a repair of windows to do that you put the windows cd in the drive and boot to the cd hit enter on the first page (install windows) and it will search for existing instalations when it finds one than it will offe to repair it automatically take that option.
