HomeLet cancelled our policy for non-payment. Turns out the card they had on file was no longer valid and apparently they cannot reinstate a policy!
Anyway I now have to declare a policy has been cancelled when asked (don't I?) so who would you recommend?

Did Homelet not inform you that your card was about to expire before cancelling the policy, to give you a chance to provide a valid one? Even the supermarkets do that for online shopping!0

I think you(/they) have the terminology wrong.
They didn't cancel the policy they chose not to auto-renew it.

@sands
The card didn't expire, I was issued a new one as I personalised it. I thought I set up a DD and forgot they had old card details so I initially got an email about the rejected payment and checked the balance and thought nothing more of it thinking it should be charged successfully second time. Then got an email saying it was cancelled as payment again failed. This time I phoned them to find out why but thu apparently cannot reinstate a policy.
@tim
The wording is as follow
"
The 14-day period for settling the arrears is now up, so we've had to cancel the policy, with
effect from 00 December 0000 in accordance with policy terms and conditions.
"
It was a yearly policy paid monthly0
