Low usage fee N&P

I have a Norwich & Peterborough account that attracted a low usage fee as the final transaction I conducted on the 29th of the month did not clear with N&P until the 1st. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Reply from N&P:

Thank you for your email regarding your account fee.

The terms of a Gold Light account state that you must make at least 5 transactions per month, these may include cash deposits/withdrawals, cheque deposits/withdrawals, ATM withdrawals, direct debits or standing orders. If you make less than 5 transactions per month you will incur a £5 low usage charge, unless your average balance throughout the month is £5000 or more

In accordance with your account terms and the terms of the Faster Payment process, when a credit is received via Faster Payment, N&P have until 5.00pm on the following working day to credit the account with the funds. When a payment is received after 4.30pm or on a non working day, it will not be processed until the following working day. Therefore when the faster payment was made to your account on 29 June, it was credited to your account on 01 July as this is the next working day.

Unfortunately N&Ps policy is that charges will not be refunded unless we have made an error. Having looked into this matter, N&P has not made an error on this occasion and I am afraid I am unable to refund this charge for you.

In the event that you remain dissatisfied with my response, please let me know and I will arrange for this to be referred to the Customer Relations Team to be reviewed.

If you should you have any further queries please let me know.

Yours Sincerely
Sam

I would ring them up and hope you get less of a jobsworth.

Huh? The T&Cs are very clear, nothing to do with "jobsworth". Transactions on a weekend will not be processed until the next working day. This is not unusual.

It is usual for banks to rescind charges on one occasion for a marginal infraction.

Indeed, if you have not had a charge refunded in the last year, I'd ask for the matter to be referred to the CRT, in the hope they'll see you as a valued customer and refund the charge.

But of course they are under no obligation to do so.

So next time when its near the end of the month, withdraw some funds from the ATM and then walk inside and deposit it.

Or do your 5 required transactions long before you run out of "month". Like 5 small SOs to another of your accounts at the beginning of the month. Not really hard to do.
