Can They Do This??

I put a PPI claim in against Halifax for a credit card I paid off some years ago.

Today I got a knock back letter - which is fine, I will follow up with the FOS.

However, within the letter they state 'I understand you are currently experiencing financial difficulties'.

The fact I dispute the comment is irrelevant - I have the least amount of debt to my name that I have had in the last ten years, and I am managing that within my income.

However I have made a complaint about how they sold me PPI over 12 years ago, what gives them the right to look into my current financial situation as part of there response to my complaint. And how does my current financial situation have any bearing on whether or not they mis sold me PPI?

I could understand if I still had a credit card with them and had late or missed payments or something - then they could make that comment - but I haven't for years. My current account is still with the Halifax, but I haven't been over limit, or paid any charges in years.

It probably just means that someone at the Halifax has selected the wrong option when creating the standard reply.

Just ignore it and move on to the FOS.

They've either included it by mistake, or you mentioned something during the course of your complaint that they've interpreted to indicate possible financial difficulty which they are required to address.
