Problems Accessing £2 Statutory Report at CRAs

Hello All,

I have recently tried to buy £2 statutory reports from all the big three credit companies such as Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. My experience has been appalling.

I spent more time on Experian and Equifax as they had problems verifying my identity. Call credit online application screen froze twice I am yet to see if they have charged me a fee or not. I have given up on them.

There are no customer services number to speak to a human being for Experian regarding statutory reports queries, however Equifax did speak to me hesitantly and eventually sold me their monthly plan. Experian only picks up call related to their monthly subscription queries and refuses to speak to people having problems with Statutory report applications etc. So much for the best customer service award they received. Who gives them this award?

I was just wondering whether fellow consumers had similar problems or how successful you guys had been accessing your £2 statutory report within 7 days? Or whether you all have been sold monthly subscriptions?

All of these companies obviously try to sell their monthly subscriptions as this is where they make huge money. Given the increasing role of credit agencies in our lives I find their powers frightening. What has your experience been? I am interested in only £2 statutory reports related stories.

Its now 5 days and still no reply from Experian, however they were quick to withdraw funds from my card. I have sent them three emails but they say that it would take them 2 weeks to answer my queries. I wonder this treatment is the same for their monthly subscribers. So much for Government Initiative on making credit files available to consumers.

Best,
A

Whenever I needed these kind of reports, I applied by letter and included a two pound cheque. I can't remember whether the reports arrived within two weeks, but the service was routine and unproblematic.

Obviously the telephone and web services of these CRAs are set up to sell their profitable products, the monthly subscriptions. So to access the statutory reports it is better to use the old-fashioned approach. Again, they provide the statutory reports because they are legally obliged to do so, and so are probably obliged to maintain systems for selling by letter rather than by more modern methods. An additional point: it probably costs them more to pay in a cheque than to process a card payment, and that gives me a tiny bit of satisfaction.

thank you for replying. You see I was advised to send these documents attached to the email but I have yet to receive a reply. I am not sure what next to do.

Sorry for any delay giving you access to your credit report. All applications are subject to identity checks and sometimes we do have to request documents to help confirm your details. We do all this as quickly as we can. You should always get a reply within seven working days, even if it's a request for further information. This is allowed by law.

It's just taken me over 3 weeks to obtain a copy of my report from Experian. Their customer service is truly appalling. If enough of us write to the ICO about these cowboys hopefully something will get done.

Do we have grounds to complain?

I know that their reports are available instantly online if you're a CreditExpert member, which costs £15.99, and it takes significantly longer if you order a £2 statutory report, but I wonder if they're justified in doing so.

Lots of companies provide various tiers of service at varying price points. I would imagine there's little that can be done about it, although with something like credit reports, I think it's absolutely despicable to take advantage of consumers in such a way.

I think you have a valid complaint though; 3 weeks is beyond a joke!
