Side window in ground floor extension

I just purchased a house that has a 2 story side extension where the garage used to be and in place of the garage on the ground floor is a sitting room and a shower room with toilet and sink. The shower room is between the kitchen and sitting room and has no window, just an extractor fan.

The extension is built about 6 inches away from the boundary line. Would I have any problems from the council if I installed a obscure glass window in the shower room to the side of the house?

Of course I would also discuss with the neighbour. They don't have a side extension or a garage to the side of their house, only a driveway. Their house is about 8ft away from the side extension of my house.

I just want to know where I stand legally if I want to put a side window into the ground floor shower room which would be obscure but adjacent to the neighbours driveway about half way.

Check the PP for the extension to see whether a window there was expressly prohibited. If you do put one in, remember also it may not open out over the boundary.

As above. Look at the original PP.

    You may need PP.

My own council let's you walk in any time and speak to a Planner for informal advice.

You will definately need Building Regs certification.
