Does Anyone Have Any Idea Of The Best And Cheapest (or Even Free) Way To Get A Website Online? I Am Interested In Building A Site But Being A Total Beginner I Havnt Got A Clue How To Get A Cheap Domain Name And Cheap Web Hosting - If Anyone Knows Of Any Companies Please Help!! Cheers

    Not sure about free hosting as I dont use any myself and wouldnt want to just give you a name willy nilly in case they're rubbish! :)

    I do use dot.tk though! :)

    I'm currently hosting my site at NETFIRMS. It is free, but they do place a banner ad advertising themselves at the top of each page. Have to say though, it's not a big problem, and not obtrusive either. They also don't use pop-ups. Now that's a bonus.
    As for domain names, there are lots of companies out there. I got mine from Low Cost Names who currently charge £3.75 per year (min 2 years). Probably cheaper about, but I have mine over a year, and was cheaper then.
    I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the [highlight]Board Drunk[/highlight] for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

    Yes, should have mentioned that dot.tk you do get a pop up banner ad, but you can just close it!

    I use http://www.astra-systems.com for my hosting, will do everything to help you get up and running at no extra cost. They charge $30 per year (approx £15) which is very cheap!!

    The guy chris is very helpful.

    If it's just a simple website you are after. Have you checked out whether you get any free web space with your ISP. Mine (Zen) gives me 1GB of free space.

    I've got a couple of friends with their own websites for their small businesses. They've got their own '.co.uk' addresses but their sites are hosted on their ISP's free webspace. They don't actually sell online so it's more for information and contact details.

    You could start off with that unless you need something a bit more advanced.
