Did you declare the cancelled policy to them or miss that to?
If the latter, then if you make a claim and they discover it you will be declaring 2 cancelled policies in future as well as the 6 points!!

If the non-disclosure was deliberate or reckless, as opposed to careless, they can void the policy whether or not they'd have offered cover had they been given accurate information. Forgetting to mention a four year old speeding ticket can be put down as carelessness, but how likely are they to believe that a cancelled policy, six points and a big fine are things which you can just forget about three years in a row?

An IN10 conviction would have meant a big increase in your premium, at best, so even if they do treat it as careless the best case scenario is a substantially reduced payout.

They ask "have you ever had any insurance cancelled or any special terms imposed?"

It's a yes/no answer where yes usually has mainstream insurers slamming the door.

It's the same with the IN10. Given you thought you could just not declare that, I'm not surprised you blatantly lied about that one too.

Not good. Any chance of claiming carelessness and getting some mercy from them will be long gone when they discover you've given wrong information that will act in your favor on a different question as well. You will then have 6 points and 2 cancelled policies to declare .

Do NCB certificates include details of cancelled policies? If they do then may be worth starting again with 0 NCB to avoid the new insurer asking questions about why a declaration isn't on the certificate!

No, but it is on the insurance database, so the OP won't be able to hide it forever.

I believe insurance companies take most information provided at face value to save admin costs.

It's only when a claim is made the claim handlers start investigating and looking on the insurance database if the claimant had falsified info.

If they had investigated first, OP would most likely have been rejected, instead, they have had all that policy money for three years but never had to pay out if a claim was made.

It may be tempting not to declare to save money on your policy but it results in not being insured.

Hope op keeps this updated, I m sure she isn't the only one running this risk

Nice how you're a bit of a tool to Guest101, when he actually summed it up quite well! Speaks a lot about your character when you'd rather just slate someone than give your side of the story.

Anyway, as above you're properly naffed now. 6 points and an IN10 declared, along with a cancelled policy? Probably time to hang up the keys compared to what it's going to cost now.

I wasn't on about hiding it - more of the best way to deal with it going forward and making proper declarations to a new insurer. The point I was getting at was if the information was to be on the NCB certificate then a new insurer may see the new declarations and ask why they are not on the certificate for the previous company. If it's not then op could possibly cancel his current policy and start again and do things properly.

Op - even if you don't make a claim now, best to start a new policy with a new company for the new car rather than a continuation as if you had a fault accident the insurance company may decide to pay out the third party and ask you for damages.
