Continued - slow computer, me banging my head
Comments
-
the first time I checked commit, before doing any of the things you suggested the peak was twice that0
-
ok that done - but qttask was rechecked though I had disabled it before? (have disabled it again)0
-
have opened FB to see what happens, and now commit total is above 1gb (and page is freezing, comp slower etc)0
-
good old fb, bloat.
ram upgrade, or possibly ghostery http://www.ghostery.com/ to stop some of the fb and other website tracking bloat running (which may affect functionality possibly but it can be configured to allow what you need)
qttask is difficult to stop, but you could rename the file to qttask2.exe, but it's tinkering at the edges, you've trimmed most of the bloat already apart from apple software.!!

OK - thanks - well it's definitely better than it was and probably best it's going to be unless I do something else, like ram upgrade - what's ghostery?0
-
it's a plugin for IE, which blocks website trackers/scripts/adverts - try it and see, it can be uninstalled if it interferes with anything - very illuminating view on what/who tracks your movements across the web
a line through the popup, means it has been blocked, no line means no blocking!!

Ghostery installed, not noticed much difference but quite fun!
Updated to SP3
Still slow, as I write this commit charge is 500M, limit is 4991M, Peak is 610M, Phy Mem 981M
With Facebook it's really slow, takes ages to even type a comment.
It is a little faster than it was but still pretty unbearable for working on the internet.

Maybe RAM is the only option left?0 -
Don't know if this is relevant - after being on FB for about 5 mins the commit charge has jumped to 1.6G, the 'processes' says it's using 300M of mem....computer is very slow, almost crashed by then. CPU usage is near or at 100%. None of this really means anything to me, I do vaguely understand it but haven't really got a clue where to look next to speed things up and not sure what's changed recently. Computer has always struggled after using internet for a while, but usually restarting IE cleared it and I could continue. Now after 5 minutes I'm throwing things at it (only metaphorically as I guess that wouldn't actually help?!...but willing to try)
Any ideas?0 -
Have you tried a different browser e.g Firefox or Chrome ?
I had a problem loading pages using IE on an old XP computer yesterday but using Firefox no problem.0
